Job summary

Zscaler is seeking a Director, Software Development to lead the architecture of major subsystems and drive automation-first initiatives across a global cloud infrastructure. Hybrid options in San Jose, CA or remote, reporting to the Production Engineering organization in Cloud Infrastructure & Operations.

You will mentor engineers, set high design standards, and act as Incident Commander during critical events.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience architecting large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficient in cloud-native design and backend languages (Java/Go/C++/Python).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable distributed systems in cloud and hybrid environments.
• Architect major software components and review design proposals, with emphasis on performance and maintainability.
• Champion software quality, observability, and operational readiness.
• Mentor senior engineers and attract top technical talent to Zscaler.
• Act as Incident Commander (on-call), develop response playbooks, and conduct post-incident analyses.
