Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s UnitedHealthcare division seeks a Clinical Operations Director for Clinical AI to lead clinical strategy, scalable AI opportunities, and AIRB governance. The role collaborates with product, technology enablement, clinical operations, and regulatory teams to translate clinical needs into prioritized AI initiatives and measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• RN, PA, NP, MD, or other active clinical licensure with solid understanding of utilization management.
• 5+ years in health plan/provider or clinical operations supporting technology-enabled transformation.
• Experience evaluating AI, automation, analytics, clinical decision support, or workflow modernization initiatives.
• Translate clinical business problems into AI use cases and measurable outcomes.
• Working knowledge of responsible AI, governance, model risk, privacy, compliance, and regulatory impacts.
• 5+ years partnering across product, strategy, technology enablement, delivery, clinical, and senior stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to synthesize AI and clinical concepts for executives.

Responsibilities

• Review and index emerging clinical AI ideas to identify scalable opportunities.
• Partner with product and tech to design practical, compliant AI-enabled workflows.
• Understand AIRB intake, prioritization, and clarify value, impact, risk, and dependencies.
• Serve as clinical SME for AIRB board discussions on utilization management and regulatory considerations.
• Develop executive-ready summaries, recommendations, and progress updates.
• Resolve highly complex business problems impacting multiple areas of the organization.
• Develop executive-level updates and reports.
• Develop and execute measurable department-level business and affordability goals.
• Think creatively about opportunities and communicate strategies to leadership.
• Collect and review data to evaluate financial outcomes and present solutions to senior leaders.
• Aid in the development of operational budgets.
• Up to 10% travel.
