Job summary

State of Maryland - MDP Local Planning Assistance seeks aDirector of the Central Maryland Planning Region to lead regional planners, oversee best practices, and coordinate local engagement for county and municipal planning in the Central Maryland Region.

The role requires managerial oversight, collaboration with state and local agencies, and strong technical and communication skills to advance sustainable growth and policy implementation.

Qualifications

• Preferred qualifications include 2 years’ experience managing complex planning and community development projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Preferred qualifications include 2 years’ experience making public presentations for a department or organization.
• 2 years’ experience and proficiency with GIS, urban design, landscape architecture, and related visualization software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Central Maryland Region planning activities and supervise two full-time regional planners.
• Coordinate with municipal and county planning departments to advance state planning goals.
• Review and approve local plan reviews and ensure consistency with state policies and laws.
• Manage grants, resources, and interagency coordination to meet regional demands.
• Assist in administration of division communications and outreach materials.
