Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Junior Digital Technology Contracts Counsel to provide legal advice and negotiate data privacy, information security, and technology procurement agreements.

Based in a 100% remote arrangement, the role supports university contracts, drafts and reviews SaaS, cloud and data processing agreements, and collaborates with ITS, IPO, ISO and University Counsel to protect institutional data and systems.

Qualifications

• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• JD or equivalent degree required.
• Experience negotiating technology transactions and commercial contracting.
• Experience drafting SaaS and cloud services agreements.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate data privacy and information security provisions in tech agreements.
• Collaborate with ITS, IPO, ISO, UC Office, and Finance/Operations on procurement.
• Assist in triaging and coordinating legal review of technology purchases.
• Conduct legal research on applicable laws and university policies.
• Develop and maintain contract templates and negotiation guidance.
• Provide training on contracting practices involving data privacy and security.
• Assist with resolution of contractual issues with vendors.
• Other duties as assigned.
