Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University seeks an Associate General Counsel/Assistant General Counsel to handle a broad, fast-paced higher education practice with emphasis on transactional matters. You will review RFPs, draft and negotiate contracts, and advise on compliance across sponsored research, purchasing, real estate, IT, data privacy, and IP.

The role requires JD, NC Bar admission, and substantial experience with 6+ years (Associate) or 3+ years (Assistant).

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• License to practice law in North Carolina and NC State Bar admission.
• Excellent academic credentials.
• Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
• Ability to juggle shifting priorities and multiple demanding projects.
• Detail-oriented with strong writing and research abilities.
• For Associate: at least six years of relevant, progressively responsible legal experience; For Assistant: at least three years.
• Understanding of the University operating environment and compliance obligations.

• Review contracts and requests for proposals for legal form.
• Draft and negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
• Provide legal advice in sponsored research, purchasing, real estate, IT, data privacy, IP, and university policies.
