The role drafts and negotiates privacy and security terms in university technology agreements and collaborates with IT and legal teams to ensure compliant purchases.

Formación

• Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Ability to join the North Carolina State Bar.
• Experience negotiating technology transactions (SaaS, cloud).
• Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR and NIST in contracts.
• Post-baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience required.

Responsabilidades

• Draft, review, and negotiate data privacy and information security terms in routine and moderate-risk tech contracts.
• Collaborate with IT, privacy, information security, University Counsel, purchasing, and research admin teams.
• Help senior counsel triage and coordinate legal review of technology purchases.
• Advise units on laws and contracting practices, and train them on contracting.
• Assist in developing contract templates and negotiation playbooks, and help resolve vendor disputes.

The counsel drafts and negotiates privacy and security terms in the university's technology agreements.

Highlights

• Draft, review, and negotiate data privacy and information security terms in routine and moderate-risk technology contracts, including software-as-a-service, licensing, cloud, data processing, and managed services agreements.
• Work with IT, privacy, information security, University Counsel, purchasing, and research administration teams to support compliant technology purchases.
• Help the senior counsel triage and coordinate legal review of technology purchases.
• Advise university units on technology purchases and the laws, regulations, and policies that apply, and train them on contracting practices.
• Assist in developing contract templates and negotiation playbooks, and help resolve disputes with technology vendors.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to join the North Carolina State Bar, and a relevant post-baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience are required.
• Experience negotiating technology transactions, including software-as-a-service and cloud agreements, is needed, along with knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, and NIST as they apply to contracts.
• The hiring range is $120,000 to $140,000, and the position is fully remote for employees living in North Carolina.
