Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a DevSecOps Integration Engineer to join our remote team supporting the VA. The role focuses on cloud migrations, CI/CD automation, secure AWS deployments, and ensuring compliance with VA and federal guidelines.

The candidate will design cloud architectures, implement monitoring, manage IAM and security controls, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while maintaining robust documentation and on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, deploying, and managing AWS infrastructure and services.
• Experience with large-scale, HA, scalable cloud architectures.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Route 53).
• Proficiency with AWS security practices (IAM, Shield, WAF).
• Experience with multi-account AWS environments and AWS Organizations.
• Scripting abilities (Python, Bash, PowerShell, NodeJS) for automation.
• Experience with IaC tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
• Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, Prometheus/Grafana/New Relic).
• Understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of database services (RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift).
• CI/CD tooling exposure (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CodePipeline/CodeBuild).
• Containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
• Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to be on-call for emergencies.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead cloud migration initiatives to AWS and govern cloud architectures.
• Create data flow, cloud, and transition diagrams for cloud infra, apps, and systems.
• Design, develop, deploy, and operate CI/CD automation technologies.
• Manage permissions in cloud providers for each cloud app, storage, and service.
• Implement and design monitoring for cloud-hosted systems to meet VA/federal policies.
• Provide cloud support for VAEC environments and ensure VIP requirements.
• Support AWS GovCloud environments ensuring VIP development and release documentation.
• Adopt DevOps mindset with CI/CD practices and tooling.
• Provide Cloud Security Provider Documentation.
• Design VAEC/cloud-hosted solutions addressing cloud-readiness gaps.
