Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to support planning, coordination, and execution of complex VA initiatives focused on VistA transition and EHR modernization. The role emphasizes problem solving, rapid learning, and collaboration in a fully remote US-based environment with occasional weekend support during deployments.

Ideal candidates have federal civilian agency experience, preferably VA, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
• Fifteen (15) or more years of work experience required.
• Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required degree.
• Project Team oriented mindset with excellent written and oral communication skills with good decision-making, interpersonal skills.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment.
• Collaboration with development, engineering, and project management teams.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in managing day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments.
• Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple concurrent activities.
• Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery.
• Ensure team activities, accomplishments, risks, and emerging work are accurately tracked, documented, maintained, and communicated to leadership.
• Support development of executive briefings, status reports, presentations, project plans, and other program deliverables.
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings, drive action items to closure, and maintain accountability for commitments.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and apply innovative approaches to program execution.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership, promoting collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
