Job summary

Palmetto Clean Technology is a remote-first US-based energy platform enabling homeowners to discover, finance, install, and monitor home energy products. You will lead the data engineering team, building a unified customer data platform used by product, finance, operations, and AI agents.

You report to the VP, Engineering and shape the data roadmap. This player-coach role requires setting priorities, reviewing designs, and writing code as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or data engineering, including 5+ years managing engineers.
• Data Architect depth: enterprise data architecture (warehouse, modeling, lineage, governance) and led architecture reviews.
• Hands-on depth in a modern warehouse and transformation framework (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt) and SQL, with enough fluency in one backend language (e.g., Python) to review and contribute.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the data engineering team. Hire, develop, and retain strong data engineers.
• Set direction and deliver. Roadmap aligned with company objectives and cross-team delivery.
• Own the data architecture. Target architecture for ingestion, modeling, governance, and reviews.
• Own the platform outcomes. Reliable pipelines with SLAs and agent-ready data traceable to source.
• Direct the access path. Secure serving layer and APIs with clear standards.
• Build governance in. Governed data for AI consumers with traceability.
• Manage vendors. Evaluate data platform tooling and negotiate contracts.
• Partner across the company. Collaborate with finance, operations, sales, marketing, and product.
