Job summary

The Helmsman Group LLC is seeking a Business Analyst – Data & BI to analyze business data, build dashboards, and translate requirements into data solutions. You will collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, IT, and management to improve decision-making through reliable BI reports.

Responsibilities include gathering requirements, producing Power BI/Tableau dashboards, writing SQL, validating data, and supporting data models and data quality initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2–5 years of experience in business analysis, data analysis, BI, or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms.
• Strong Excel skills with pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and data analysis.
• Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.
• Understanding of data analysis, reporting, KPIs, and BI concepts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate business needs into clear data and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements for data, reporting, analytics, and BI initiatives.
• Work with stakeholders to understand objectives, performance challenges, reporting needs, and KPIs.
• Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and improvements.
• Develop and maintain BI reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Create clear data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
• Write SQL queries to extract, validate, and analyze data from databases and sources.
• Translate business requirements into data requirements and reporting specifications.
• Define and document KPIs, metrics, calculations, and data definitions.
• Validate data and reconcile reports and dashboards.
• Collaborate with data engineers and IT to improve data availability and quality.
• Perform data profiling, quality analysis, and root-cause analysis for discrepancies.
• Support data models and reporting datasets.
• Analyze historical and current performance to provide insights to management.
• Develop ad-hoc reports and analyses for business decisions.
• Assist management in interpreting dashboards and results.
• Monitor performance against KPIs and targets.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and improve efficiency.
• Support data-driven process improvement and transformation initiatives.
• Participate in UAT for BI reports and data solutions.
• Document reporting processes, data sources, and business rules.
