Job summary

Column is a remote-first software platform serving governments, law firms, and media organizations with tools to keep communities informed. We are seeking a compliance contractor to rebuild our state and local compliance system over a 12-week project, delivering a register, a certificate/renewal tracker, a 12-month calendar with runbooks, and an evaluation memo.

You will research requirements, document sources with verification dates, flag open items, and ensure a clean handoff to People Ops at

Qualifications

• Experience across more than one state in unemployment, payroll tax, and workers' comp.
• Experience building compliance calendars, trackers, or checklists in spreadsheets.
• Ability to work with minimal direction and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Build a register of every state and local registration, tax account, and insurance carrier, with owners and renewal dates.
• Research and document state requirements for each state where we have employees or other nexus: unemployment filings, withholding, new-hire reporting, required postings, paid leave, workers' comp, and local taxes. Cite a primary source and a verification date for each item, and list open items.
