Job summary

Zurich North America is hiring an experienced Commercial Surety Underwriter for our Southeast regional team. The role focuses on analyzing and underwriting a book of new and renewal business, leveraging the Zurich Way of Underwriting within delegated authority to deliver high-quality service.

The position can be filled at the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will place you based on your experience and skills, with opportunities to lead complex projects

Qualifications

• 3+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience in underwriting or finance/banking
• 6+ years in claims or underwriting support with equivalent qualifications
• Zurich Apprentice with Associate Degree and relevant experience
• Knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines
• Experience with quotes for new and renewal business

Responsibilities

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to meet appetite and balance with business opportunity.
• Make agent/broker/customer calls with prepared purpose.
• Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
• Cross-sell other lines to increase product density.
• Participate in Sales Team meetings for assigned brokers/territory.
• Manage a qualified target account list 90–120 days before effective date.
• Update broker/client visit details in systems within timelines.
• Develop broker/client networks related to underwritten industries.
• Contribute to development of underwriting manuals, programs and guidelines.
• Lead complex projects to implement new systems or products.
