Job summary

Placements24 seeks a versatile Legal Counsel with expertise in Commercial Law and Compliance to operate in a fully remote capacity within South Africa. You will support a broad range of commercial agreements and drive regulatory adherence across the organization.

The role requires admitted SA counsel with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to proactively manage legal and compliance risks in a virtual team setting.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with minimum 6 years post-qualification experience.
• Expertise in commercial law and regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of South African contract law, company law, and agricultural sector regulations.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting and analytical abilities.
• Able to manage multiple remote projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts (supply, distribution, service).
• Provide legal advice on business transactions, M&A within agriculture.
• Ensure compliance with SA laws applicable to agriculture (environment, food safety).
• Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
• Conduct legal research and provide opinions on regulatory issues.
