Job summary

ScholarMatch seeks a full-time College Advisor to manage a caseload of students and provide virtual advising from San Francisco and Los Angeles. You will mentor students, guide them through college life, and connect them with resources while maintaining meticulous case notes.

The role emphasizes strong counseling, relationship-building, and data-driven improvements to support persistence and graduation for first-generation students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a counseling/social work-related field.
  • Experience with first-generation, low-income students and direct communications with students.
  • Advanced proficiency in GSuite and database management.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and navigate sensitive student issues.
  • Ability to work in an anti-racist organization with a diverse group of staff and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of college students (California and across the U.S.) with regular contact via phone, text, and video.
  • Build relationships to guide students from transition to college and into careers.
  • Advise on academic strategies, financial aid and money management, campus engagement, and career exploration.
  • Address student challenges with problem-solving and campus resources.
  • Hold office hours for additional support.
  • Navigate persistence issues with program manager.
  • Record detailed case notes and prepare for meetings.
  • Assist in collecting and reviewing student documentation.
  • Support scholarship partner communications and program modifications for partners.
  • Attend student events and contribute to team projects.
