Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum Insight is hiring a National Remote hospital/facility collections specialist. The role supports Medicaid/Medi-Cal follow-up, appeals, denials, and payer contract interpretation, with training during the first month and standard hours 6:00 AM–5:00 PM PST.

The position emphasizes reconciliation of complex accounts, HIPAA compliance, and strong customer service to patients and providers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• 1+ years hospital/facility collections experience including follow-up, appeals and denied claims.
• 1+ years of Medicaid/Medi-Cal follow-up including appeals and denials.
• Experience navigating an insurance portal to resolve denied hospital claims.
• Experience reviewing UB-04 claim forms (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Ability to train during first month 6:00 AM–2:30 PM PST, Mon–Fri.
• Ability to work an 8-hour shift Mon–Fri between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM PST.

Responsibilities

• Collect, reconcile, research, and communicate on accounts.
• Reconcile complex, multi-payment accounts and post adjustments.
• Submit appeal letters for underpayments as directed.
• Interpret payer contracts to verify payment accuracy.
• Review EOBs for denials and post corrective adjustments.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes in PFS.
