Job summary

Optum is seeking an experienced Coding Leader to supervise day-to-day operations of inpatient, outpatient, professional, and specialty coding teams. You will coach, mentor, and evaluate staff, monitor productivity and quality, and ensure adequate staffing and coverage.

This role requires strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, plus audits, workflows, and collaboration with HIM, billing, and clinical departments to resolve coding issues and improve revenue cycle performance.

Qualifications

• Must have CPC certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC annually renewed.
• Experience supervising coding staff in a hospital/medical setting.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and payer guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the coding team (inpatient, outpatient, professional, or specialty coders).
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations for coding staff.
• Monitor productivity and quality metrics; ensure teams meet benchmarks.
• Develop staff schedules, manage PTO, and ensure adequate coverage.
• Lead meetings and training sessions on updates and expectations.
