Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking an experienced medical coder/biller to perform charge processing and ensure accurate CPT/ICD-10 coding in alignment with policies. The role requires collaboration with physicians, department administrators, and billing staff to resolve denials and optimize revenue.

Remote work is allowed within MCW’s registered payroll states. Strong attention to detail and reliable communication are essential for success in this remote-capable position.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 CM coding.
• Understanding of medical insurance guidelines and governmental policies.
• Progressive computer skills.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the team and department staff.

Responsibilities

• CHARGE PROCESSING: Assignment or verification of CPT, ICD-10 CM coding and modifiers based upon documentation.
• Resolve edits for electronic charges and ensure data elements are accurate.
• Charge Entry as needed.
• RECONCILIATION OF CHARGES: Monitor charge flow and liaison with managers and staff.
• Work with clinic staff and physicians regarding missing or unclear billing information.
• CLAIM DENIALS / BILLING ISSUES: Identify, report, and resolve coding and reimbursement issues.
• Identify opportunities to reduce denials and improve revenue.
• PROTOCOLS: Develop and maintain protocols for assigned areas.
• PROVIDER EDUCATION: Stay updated on Teaching Physician and provider documentation policies.
