Job summary

UnitedHealth Group values a Coding Quality Analyst to review patient records, extract data, and craft defensible appeal letters using ICD-9/ICD-10 guidance. You will leverage encoders, CPT/HCPCS standards, and medical literature references, maintaining HIPAA compliance and timely deliverables.

The position emphasizes accurate coding, ongoing learning, and collaboration with peers while supporting enterprise goals. Remote work across the U.S. is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Coding certifications CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CDIP, CCDS.
  • 3+ years inpatient hospital coding experience.
  • 3+ years DRG methodology experience.
  • 3+ years outpatient coding experience.
  • 2+ years Medicare/Medicaid experience.
  • Mastery level of AHA Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM and ICD-10.
  • Proficient in ICD-9/10, CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to approved schedule and arrives at work timely
  • Maintains accurate accounts of time off per guidelines
  • Composes appeal letters with data extraction and references
  • Uses encoders and coding guidelines (ICD-9/10, CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Working knowledge of Word and strong typing skills
  • Effective communication with clients and team
  • Adheres to HIPAA confidentiality requirements
  • Support and promote Optum, OPAS and enterprise goals
  • Builds relationships across Optum, OPAS, OGA and clients
  • Collaborates with peers to ensure continuity of communication and deliverables
  • Maintains quality and productivity expectations
  • Participates in meetings and stays up to date with learning modules and licenses
  • Performs other duties as required by leadership
  • Establishes priorities, is self-motivated, works independently
  • Maintains a collaborative team mindset
