Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• CEMA certification within 6 months of hire.
• CPMA certification within 1 year of hire.
• CPC certification is required.
• RHIT or RHIA certification through AHIMA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists coders with coding questions.
• Collects and reports provider and coder audit results and education.
• Ensures documentation for clinic services is appropriate.
• Reports results to Coding Supervisor - Professional.
• Demonstrates ability to code all types of encounters.
• Meets quality standards for accurate diagnoses and procedures coding.
• Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement under federal/state systems.
• Refers trend patterns of coding and documentation to Coding Supervisor - Professional.
• Performs coding quality audits for the E/M Audit Program.
• Analyzes EM code level selection accuracy during audits.
• Verifies diagnoses/procedures per ICD-CM and CPT guidelines.
• Trains new coding staff on coding systems and processes.

CEMA - Certified Evaluation & Management Auditor

CPMA - Certified Professional Medical Auditor

RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician - AHIMA

RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator - AHIMA
