Job summary

YO AI Labs is seeking an experienced COBOL Developer for a remote contractor role focused on training and improving AI systems using COBOL and legacy mainframe knowledge.

You will analyze existing COBOL code, document business logic, review mainframe workflows, and contribute to high-quality training data while collaborating with distributed technical teams to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Qualifications

• Proven professional experience as a COBOL Developer or Mainframe Developer.
• Strong proficiency in COBOL programming and legacy mainframe environments.
• Experience with mainframe systems and related technologies.
• Strong understanding of complex legacy codebases, business rules and workflows.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret existing COBOL codebases, workflows, and business logic.
• Develop clear documentation of COBOL programs, systems processes, and requirements.
• Review COBOL code, pseudocode, and scenarios for accuracy and completeness.
• Identify edge cases, ambiguities, defects, and areas needing clarification.
• Annotate COBOL scripts to support AI training data development.
• Design and review test cases representing real-world COBOL/mainframe apps.
• Provide guidance on legacy system architecture, integrations, and dependencies.
• Collaborate with project coordinators and technical experts via clear written and verbal communication.
• Ensure all submitted materials meet high accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
