Job summary

SIXGEN is seeking a CNE Developer in Columbia, MD to research vulnerabilities, develop specialized software, and support authorized operations. This role blends low-level software development, reverse engineering, and vulnerability research across OS, applications, and protocols.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with unfamiliar codebases, undocumented behavior, and turning research into reliable software.

Qualifications

• Experience in systems programming, reverse engineering, vulnerability research or related software development.
• Strong proficiency in software development.
• Familiarity with debuggers, disassemblers, and decompilers such as Ghidra, IDA Pro, GDB, WinDbg, or LLDB.
• Understanding of operating system internals on one or more platforms.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and network protocol analysis.
• Experience with Git, build processes, and software debugging/testing.
• Ability to investigate problems and document findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software supporting CNE research and mission requirements.
• Conduct vulnerability research and root-cause analysis of OS, applications, services, and network protocols.
• Reverse engineer software, firmware, and protocols to understand function and assess weaknesses.
• Develop PoC implementations and mature research into documented capabilities.
• Write and debug software.
• Analyze platform internals: memory management, processes, system calls, access controls, IPC.
• Build environments that reproduce configurations for repeatable evaluation.
• Create modular components with defined interfaces for integration and maintenance.
• Collaborate with QA for validation of functionality, reliability, and compatibility.
• Participate in code reviews, configuration management, and technical planning.
• Document architecture, research findings, build procedures, dependencies, and test results.
