Job summary

Abbott is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a Cloud Software Platform Practice, remotely in the U.S. You will coach cloud engineers, drive platform reliability, and collaborate with product and security teams to deliver scalable services powering healthcare professionals and patients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in CS/IT or related field.
• 8+ years of related experience; Master’s +6 years acceptable.
• Leadership style grounded in humility, curiosity, accountability and service.
• Experience coordinating engineers across multiple product teams or programs.
• Software engineering experience with cloud-based or distributed systems.
• Ability to coach engineers and foster mentoring across levels.
• Experience designing and maintaining complex asynchronous messaging jobs.
• Experience building scalable, available, maintainable architecture.
• Translating business goals into engineering priorities and plans.
• Balance delivery speed with reliability, security, and long-term platform health.
• Comfort with asynchronous work in a distributed team.
• Strong written, verbal and listening communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of cloud software engineers with coaching and growth opportunities.
• Encourage a team-first mindset and accountability for outcomes.
• Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe environment for collaboration and learning.
• Support hiring, onboarding, succession planning and knowledge sharing.
• Learn and improve Go-based healthcare platform services.
• Design and implement cloud services and components using Go.
• Develop high-volume, low-latency services for a global platform.
• Collaborate on APIs to share and use medical data across partners.
• Coordinate with Security to design secure solutions.
• Ensure platform performance, reliability and uptime with high engineering standards.
• Contribute to architectural decisions with leadership teams.
• Identify capacity, risk, dependencies and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
• Align priorities with product owners for timely delivery.
• Invest in quality, security, observability and reducing technical debt.
• Encourage experimentation based on customer value and risk.
