Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Java Backend Lead Developer in the United States. You will design and deliver scalable, cloud-based applications and analytics solutions using Java technologies, leading the engineering team through the software lifecycle.

You will promote cloud-native practices, drive production readiness, and provide technical guidance while collaborating with managers, leads, and stakeholders in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software development experience, with advanced expertise in Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Data JPA.
• Strong experience designing and developing scalable backend applications, preferably in high-volume or large-scale environments.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise messaging or queueing technology (e.g., Apache Kafka).
• Experience deploying applications on major cloud platforms and with modern deployment practices (CI/CD, Kubernetes).
• Proven ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate in an Agile Scrum environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable backend applications and analytics solutions using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Partner with technical program managers, technology leads, and business stakeholders to evaluate requirements and guide technical conversations.
• Develop high-quality features with adherence to coding standards, including unit testing and code coverage requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to developers and support the creation of specifications and solution designs.
• Oversee testing, deployment, and production readiness with proper monitoring and observability.
