Job summary

Jeppesen ForeFlight seeks a software engineer to build and modernize cloud-hosted backend services supporting Jeppesen Download Manager across desktop, mobile, and avionics workflows.

Role focuses on scalable, resilient cloud-native design, production-grade infrastructure, and automation. Remote-friendly with some in-office expectations in Denver or Austin regions. Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Apache, Linux, PHP, Docker, and CloudFormation is valued.

Qualifications

• Experience building or modernizing backend services in production cloud environments.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud-native architecture patterns.
• Experience designing scalable, high-availability backend systems for high-volume workflows.
• Experience establishing CI/CD pipelines and automation for backend deployments.
• Understanding of DR/HA, observability, patching, and production support.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modernize cloud-hosted backend services using cloud-native tech and managed services.
• Design scalable, resilient backend architecture to support growth and high download volumes.
• Improve backend services, integrations, jobs, and workflows used by desktop and mobile apps.
• Enhance infrastructure automation, CI/CD, monitoring, HA/DR, and production support practices.
• Apply cloud security best practices across services, automation, and deployment processes.
• Identify and mitigate risks and technical debt in backend services and cloud infra.
• Maintain existing AWS-hosted legacy services built on Apache, Linux, PHP, SQL Server, Kubernetes, Docker, and CloudFormation.
• Manage, debug, and maintain Kubernetes clusters, containers, IaC templates, and AWS environments.
• Patch and maintain existing infrastructure and applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable backend services.
• Utilize AI-augmented tools to support design, implementation, testing, and code review.
