Job summary

Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a Software Engineer to help build the next generation of AWS cloud-hosted backend services supporting Jeppesen Download Manager across desktop and mobile apps.

This role focuses on designing scalable cloud-native services, modernizing infrastructure, and ensuring uptime and data integrity. Remote-friendly with in-office needs in Denver or Austin on a quarterly to bi-monthly schedule; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience developing or modernizing backend services in production cloud environments.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, cloud-native architecture patterns, and common cloud operational practices.
• Designing scalable, high-volume backend systems with resilience.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment workflows.
• Strong HA/DR, observability, patching, and production support practices.
• Cloud security best practices including access control and secrets handling.
• Kubernetes cluster management and containerized deployments.
• Infrastructure as code experience.
• Ability to diagnose across applications, infra, containers, databases, and cloud services.
• Experience using AI-augmented development tools like Claude or Codex.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modernize cloud-hosted backend services using cloud-native technologies.
• Design scalable backend architecture to support growth and high download volumes.
• Improve backend services, integrations, jobs, and production workflows for desktop/mobile apps.
• Enhance automation, CI/CD, monitoring, high availability, and DR practices.
• Apply cloud security best practices across services and deployment processes.
• Identify risks and technical debt in backend services and cloud infrastructure.
• Maintain and support existing AWS-hosted legacy services (Apache, Linux, PHP, SQL Server, Kubernetes, Docker, CloudFormation).
• Manage, debug, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and IaC templates in AWS.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable backend services.
• Use AI-augmented tools to support design, debugging, testing, and code review.
