Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Professional Coding Specialist to review and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for physician services. This role emphasizes accuracy, CMS/NCCI compliance, and collaboration with providers and revenue cycle teams.

The ideal candidate has 1-3+ years of physician-based coding, CPC and/or CCS/CCS-P, and strong knowledge of coding guidelines. This is a fully remote position based in Providence, RI with standard work hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPC (Certified Professional Coder) – AAPC and CCS/CCS-P – AHIMA.
• 1-3+ years of physician-based coding experience.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II guidelines.
• Experience with EHRs; Epic experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and apply coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Enter and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes for services.
• Follow NCCI edits, medical necessity rules, and payer guidelines.
• Resolve coding edits and denials; maintain accuracy 95%+.
• Ensure documentation supports codes and patient records.
• Adhere to Rhode Island Hospital and organizational coding policies.
