Job summary

LAC Federal is seeking an experienced Cataloging and Metadata Librarian to support a major federal research library on a part-time remote basis. This role focuses on advanced cataloging for technical reports, archival materials, digital objects, and publications, helping maintain over 130,000 bibliographic records with metadata quality initiatives.

You will apply MARC, RDA, and authority control using Ex Libris Alma, contribute to digital repository workflows, and prepare monthly progress

Qualifications

• - MLS degree from accredited institution or equivalent library experience.
• - At least 5 years of experience with metadata work and technical services.
• - Demonstrate experience with Ex Libris Alma ILS.
• - Ability to apply cataloging rules and standards including RDA, Bibframe, AACR2, and LC authorities.
• - Experience with metadata formats including MARC21, XML, MARCXML.
• - Experience with cataloging tools such as OCLC Records Manager and Connexion, MarcEdit, authority files.
• - Experience with an online ILS and WorldCat/WorldShare.
• - Experience with scripting, batch processing, XSLT, and regex.
• - Previous original and copy cataloging experience.
• - Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• - Clear and effective communication; knowledge of library theories and trends.
• - Ability to problem-solve in cataloging.

Responsibilities

• - Perform original and complex cataloging using MARC21 for technical reports, archives, and publications.
• - Perform copy cataloging using established metadata standards and authority records.
• - Create, edit, and maintain bibliographic and holdings records in Ex Libris Alma.
• - Apply current cataloging standards (RDA, AACR2, BIBFRAME, LC/SH, LCNAF).
• - Catalog museum objects, archival materials, and historical resources.
• - Prepare digital publications and metadata for ingestion into repositories.
• - Conduct quality control reviews of records and metadata.
• - Support maintenance of the ILS and metadata environment.
• - Assist with metadata cleanup and bulk remediation tasks.
• - Collaborate with NIST library staff and report progress monthly.
• - Follow federal policies, standards, and project plans.
