Job summary

NIIC National Interstate Insurance Company is seeking a California Workers’ Comp Claims Adjuster to join our team. This role manages an inventory of claims, conducts investigations, determines coverage, liability and damages, and negotiates settlements within authority.

The position offers a hybrid option from the Richfield, OH office four days per week or full remote work from anywhere in the USA if not local to the office. This is a non-exempt role in California and Washington.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 6 months of property and casualty claims handling experience.
• Progress toward a professional designation (e.g., AIC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability and liability.
• Conduct investigations to confirm coverage and determine damages.
• Determine settlements/reserves within authority and negotiate as needed.
• Communicate coverage details and settlements to insureds and partners.
• Authorize payments within authority and ensure timely processing.
• Maintain accurate claim files and correspondence.
