Job summary

Bernalillo County is seeking a Certified Building Official to lead the Planning & Development Services team in Albuquerque, NM. You will oversee building, electrical, and mechanical/plumbing code compliance, inspect processes, and manage permit workflows to ensure safety and regulatory adherence.

Responsibilities include supervising inspectors and clerical staff, issuing notices, preparing reports, training staff, and representing the county in reviews and hearings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and relevant code administration knowledge.
• ICC Certified Building Official certification is required at hire.
• Experience in construction inspection, budgeting, and zoning is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, schedules, and reviews the daily workload of inspectors and clerical staff.
• Reviews construction plans for compliance with building, zoning, and related codes.
• Issues stop-work notices, correction notices, and notices of violation.
• Prepares reports and maintains records; serves as an expert witness in court cases.
• Oversees permit processes and manages department operations to improve efficiency.
