Job summary

Quetzal Therapeutics is a biotech company focused on rare diseases seeking a seasoned Controller to own accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, and treasury operations. You will collaborate with external partners and leadership to ensure timely, GAAP-compliant statements and strong internal controls in a lean finance organization.

This remote role, with a potential hybrid arrangement, welcomes candidates across the United States, with preferred locations Chicago or New Jersey.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and/or controllership experience.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or a similar R&D-intensive industry.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation/review.
• Demonstrated experience owning or contributing to month-end close and financial reporting.
• Experience overseeing outsourced bookkeeping or related services.
• Experience coordinating with external tax advisors and auditors.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close process in NetSuite, including journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and financial statements.
• Maintain GAAP-compliant financial reporting and develop accounting policies and internal controls.
• Improve accounting processes and financial infrastructure for a growing biotech company.
• Oversee outsourced bookkeeping and ensure work quality before leadership review.
• Serve as primary Finance contact for external tax advisors, auditors, payroll providers, and other partners.
• Lead accounts payable and treasury operations, including cash forecasting and banking relations.
• Coordinate with tax advisors on tax compliance and R&D credits.
• Support audit activities and investor/Board reporting; establish reporting benchmarks.
