Job summary

OnTrac Solutions LLC. is seeking a Software Engineer (Bioinformatics Pipelines) to join a contractor program supporting a genomics unit.

You will contribute to pipeline engineering, performance tuning, and automation for a 12–18 month engagement, collaborating with a dedicated bioinformatics team and customer stakeholders. The role emphasizes software quality, operations, and integration with laboratory systems across Illumina/Oxford Nanopore/PacBio platforms, in a fully remote US setting.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals applied to bioinformatics pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash.
• Experience with Nextflow for workflow management.
• Experience operating pipelines in on-prem HPC environments.
• Experience integrating software with lab systems and sequencing instruments.
• Experience working in an Agile team.
• Ability to join quickly with limited ramp-up.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the bioinformatics pipelines in the customer’s HPC environment.
• Tune pipeline performance and resource usage.
• Automate pipeline operations and routines.
• Provide operational support for pipelines and data movement.
• Implement integrations between pipelines and lab systems/instruments (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, PacBio).
• Support the LIS transition work within the project.
• Participate as a full member of an Agile pipeline team.
