Job summary

OnTrac is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer (Bioinformatics Pipelines) to join a contractor program supporting a genomics unit within a healthcare customer. The role emphasizes engineering pipelines for quality, performance, automation, and operational support, with collaboration across customer stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on Python, Bash, and Nextflow experience, and a proven ability to integrate into an established pipeline team quickly for a 12–18 month

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals applied to bioinformatics pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash.
• Experience with Nextflow for workflow management.
• Experience operating pipelines in on-premise HPC environments.
• Experience integrating pipelines with lab systems and sequencing instruments.
• Experience working in an Agile team.
• Ability to ramp quickly into an established team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve genomics pipelines in the customer's on-premise HPC environment.
• Tune pipeline performance in HPC settings.
• Automate pipeline operations and recurring engineering tasks.
• Provide operational support for pipelines and data delivery processes.
• Implement and maintain integrations between pipelines and laboratory systems.
• Support LIS transition-related pipeline workload and requirements.
• Participate as a full member of an Agile pipeline team.
