Job summary

State of Washington’s Employment Security Department (ESD) seeks ES Benefits Specialist 2 in-training for the PFML program. This telework-eligible role engages with claimants, employers, and providers to adjudicate claims, explain eligibility requirements, and ensure timely, accurate information.

You'll advance from ESBS1 in-training to ESBS2, with on-the-job and classroom training, and support diverse customers across Washington.

Qualifications

• Claims processing and adjudication experience.
• Documentation and verification of benefit requests.
• Fact-finding and advising on rights and responsibilities.
• Knowledge of laws/policies for program decisions.
• Ability to explain program requirements and services.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Adaptability to perform various tasks, including lower-level duties.

Responsibilities

• Process and adjudicate Paid Family Medical Leave claims.
• Provide customer service via phone, email, and secure messaging.
• Identify customer needs and deliver timely solutions.
• Review wage information, verification materials, and medical certifications.
• Conduct fact-finding and request documentation as needed.
• Ensure non-English speakers receive translated communications.
