Job summary

Albemarle County is seeking an Eligibility Worker to perform professional, equitable casework in a team setting. The role handles applications for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and related programs while delivering strong customer service and using a holistic approach.

The position requires interviewing, determining eligibility, maintaining records, and referring clients to social workers as needed, with adherence to policy and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Interviews applicants/recipients with adaptive techniques per client needs.
• Determines eligibility for assistance and benefit levels per state/federal guidelines.
• Compiles and analyzes information to determine ongoing eligibility for programs.
• Explains available programs, rights, and responsibilities; makes referrals to social workers when needed.
• Researches and applies mandated policy to administer benefits caseloads.

Responsibilities

• Responds to appeal requests and prepares summaries and documentation.
• Attends unit/agency meetings and participates in trainings.
• Recommends changes to internal policy based on experience and knowledge.
• Maintains accurate records and ensures data integrity; identifies errors or potential fraud.
• Performs related tasks as required.
