Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a backend-focused engineer to own development, maintenance, and optimization of APIs, queues, and real-time communications driving our product. You will design autoscaling, monitor costs, support production releases, and collaborate across teams including firmware, ML infra, and Trust & Safety, with remote-first options.

Qualifications

• Backend applications and services with Python.
• PostgreSQL design, query optimization, and production management.
• Experience owning production infra end-to-end.
• Ability to design and scale queue-driven or real-time systems.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs and real-time comms.
• Experience building reliable cloud infrastructure with autoscaling.
• Familiarity with observability, metrics, logging and incident monitoring.
• Knowledge of release engineering incl. migrations and rollbacks.
• Ability to monitor and optimize infrastructure costs while balancing performance.
• Experience collaborating with firmware, ML infra and security teams.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and improve reliability.
• Excellent communication and ownership in a small, fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Own the development, maintenance, and optimization of backend APIs and job queues responsible for processing customer requests and powering the product experience.
• Maintain and improve the real-time communication infrastructure that connects devices to backend services, ensuring reliability and performance in collaboration with firmware engineering.
• Design, implement, and optimize autoscaling capabilities to support increasing traffic and expanding device fleet.
• Collaborate with Machine Learning Serving Engineers to coordinate infrastructure scaling and GPU-based inference workloads.
• Strengthen observability with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting for early issue detection.
• Build cost-monitoring and instrumentation to track expenses at request, model, and service levels.
• Take ownership of release engineering for backend services, including deployments, migrations, production releases, and rollbacks.
• Improve system architecture, resilience, and operational standards for scalability and maintainability.
• Partner with Trust & Safety to implement abuse prevention, device security, and privacy safeguards for children’s product.
• Participate in on-call rotation and continuously improve systems to reduce incidents.
• Identify bottlenecks and risks, and take proactive steps to improve performance and reliability.
• Establish engineering best practices to support long-term platform growth.
