Job summary

Speechify is a distributed, office-less company delivering text-to-speech across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and Web. The Platform team maintains the backend systems powering payments, subscriptions, authentication, and analytics for over 50 million users.

You’ll design and own critical APIs, improve performance, and automate repetitive work while ensuring correctness and scalability across multiple clients. The role emphasizes independence, ownership, and building reusable solutions.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node
• Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud
• Habit of giving away work you used to own and something to show for the room it created
• Daily working setup with AI agents you can describe in detail — what runs unattended and what you review
• Instinct to verify results against logs and DB state, not just summaries
• Ability to explain why certain features should not be built

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API
• Improve services to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable
• Ensure changes are correct before shipping and maintain checks post-release
• Automate repetitive parts of the role to focus on higher-impact work
• Turn isolated work into reusable patterns for the team
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations built on top of our platform
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead
