Job summary

Affirm is seeking a backend software engineer on the Streaming team to help design and scale event-driven data infrastructure. The role emphasizes building robust backend services with Python or Kotlin, working with Kafka, Flink, AWS, and Kubernetes, and collaborating across product, design, and analytics to deliver impactful data solutions.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes.
• Strong ownership, feedback, and code reviews.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics on decisions.
• Support operations by creating/monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Engage in growth and development activities including interviews.
