Job summary

affirm is hiring a software engineer to design, build, and scale backend systems using Python or Kotlin. You’ll work within a distributed systems stack including AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes, contributing to data infrastructure and event-driven architecture.

You’ll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics, break down tasks, and own facets of delivery, monitoring, and on-call reliability while growing your technical and leadership skills in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems in Python or Kotlin
• Familiar with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, Kafka, Flink and Kubernetes
• Able to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
• Comfortable navigating large code bases and giving code review feedback
• Demonstrates ownership of growth and seeks feedback
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
