Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first company focused on providing a simple and transparent pay-over-time experience. The Streaming team builds data infrastructure with Kafka, Flink, Schema Registry, and AWS to drive event-driven architecture, data exploration, and validation.

You will design, develop, and launch backend systems, collaborate across product, design, and analytics, and scale our data platform while maintaining code quality and on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, Kafka, Flink and Kubernetes.
• Able to translate simple business problems into robust, multi-component solutions with well-tested code.
• Comfortable navigating large codebases and giving feedback through code reviews.
• Demonstrates ownership of growth and actively seeks feedback from team and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into tasks and deliver in phases with timely delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics during ideation and decision-making.
• Support operations by creating/monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Contribute to team growth through participation in interview processes.
