Job summary

Rohde & Schwarz Networks and Cybersecurity is seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to design and build scalable features and microservices in a modern cloud environment, focusing on network and device configuration orchestration for distributed devices.

You will work in agile, cross-functional teams, embracing remote work while collaborating in person when beneficial. The role offers flexible hybrid arrangements with quarterly on-site travel to German locations.

Qualifications

• Several years of hands-on experience with Spring Boot microservices.
• Strong expertise in Java/Kotlin, Spring, SQL, and RESTful services.
• Experience with underlying data stores (Postgres, Redis or Clickhouse).
• Solid understanding of data structures, separation of concerns, resilient distributed systems, event-driven architectures, API design, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Familiarity with core developer tools: GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Grafana, Graylog, kubectl and Jenkins is a plus.
• Familiarity with Message Broker (e.g. Kafka) is a plus.
• Experienced in agile development methods and Scrum framework.
• Curiosity in leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate velocity while maintaining code quality.
• Skill or affinity in at least one network infrastructure domain (e.g., WAN, LAN, Switching, Wi‑Fi, Security).
• Basic knowledge of modern network orchestration (e.g. NETCONF/RESTCONF, Yang, Ansible, Terraform, SNMP), Ethernet (L2/L3) protocols, or network device automation is a big plus.
• Hands‑on experience with AI/agent‑based dev tools to enhance development is a plus.
• Fluency in English and German level B1/2 (CEFR) are required.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience in hybrid work environments, with travel on-site once a quarter.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable microservices with well-defined interfaces.
• Contribute to the evolution of our architecture and maintain a clean, robust codebase.
• Design, build and maintain RESTful APIs (OpenAPI 3.0).
• Evaluate and implement multiple solution approaches to technical challenges.
• Review code for quality and ensure adherence to project standards; keep up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems.
