Job summary

GovCIO is seeking an experienced Azure Commercial Cloud Engineer to support the VA Data Modernization initiative. This fully remote role in the United States focuses on designing, provisioning, and automating cloud-based data workspaces with Azure, Databricks, and VHA Data Lake integrations.

The ideal candidate will lead teams, implement IaC with Terraform, and build automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git, enabling rapid onboarding and secure, scalable data environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus extensive IT/engineering experience (12 years equivalent).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Azure Commercial cloud services (computing, networking, storage, identity).
• Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable Azure infrastructure for mission-critical environments.
• Engineer automated landing zones and provisioning for rapid onboarding.
• Create cloud workspaces with common tools to reduce onboarding friction.
• Lead migration from on-premises to cloud solutions.
• Develop and maintain design docs, policies, and procedures.
• Automate provisioning for user intake, workspace creation, and data access.
• Lead cross-functional teams to ensure compliant workspace operations.
• Map new users to workspace personas and configurations.
• Build workspaces in PreProd/Prod with service principals and access controls.
• Create and manage Databricks catalogs, mounts, and integrations with the VHA Data Lake.
• Develop IaC with Terraform; maintain modular code and CI/CD pipelines.
