Job summary

General Motors is seeking an experienced Safety Data Analysis Engineer to provide data-driven support for AV Operational Safety and Issue Response. You will combine engineering judgment with safety analysis to investigate events, organize data, and develop evidence for safety decisions.

The role emphasizes navigating large datasets, rapid, iterative investigations, and translating findings into actionable insights for AV safety assurance teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related physical science.
  • 5+ years of professional experience analyzing large-scale time-series data, telemetry, or robotics data.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills; knowledge of ROS logs is valuable.
  • Experience with time-series analysis and signal-processing methods.
  • Ability to design ad-hoc analyses and develop scalable analytics.
  • Experience gathering requirements and communicating findings to teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaborative abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to AV Safety Strategy requests for analyses, data organization, and root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Safety teams to investigate AV issues.
  • Translate investigation needs into analysis requirements and execution plans.
  • Support rapid incident-response and leverage data pipelines and issue-relevant sources.
  • Integrate telemetry, time-series signals, event records, and software-release data into analysis-ready datasets.
  • Differentiate data-quality issues from meaningful outliers using engineering judgment.
  • Deliver concise, technically rigorous findings to partner teams.
  • Identify reusable workflows and analytics tooling for ongoing investigations.
  • Apply signal processing methods to transform noisy signals into meaningful vehicle behavior models.
