Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC seeks an Automated Test Engineer (ATE) to lead manual and automated testing across web and IT systems for VA projects. This 100% remote, full-time role requires ten or more years in software testing, strong programming, test automation, and knowledge of SDLC and Agile/Scrum.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC understanding.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
• Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions) and version control (Git, Subversion).
• Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla) and SQL validation.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, and services; security testing familiarity.
• Experience with various testing types: functional, regression, integration, system, usability, UAT.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; team collaboration.
• Ability to mentor junior testers and translate business requirements into test scenarios.
• Familiarity with test management tools, DevOps practices, and risk-based/testing approaches.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure information systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, test schedules, and approaches.
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers and Leads.
• Lead tests of software/IT systems to ensure defect-free operation.
• Verify work products using defined methods and criteria.
• Document and communicate test results; support issue resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reports; provide guidance to the team.
• Perform other IT systems engineering activities as needed.
