Job summary

The Southern NM Associate Program Manager at National Forest Foundation leads conservation programs across New Mexico’s National Forests, reporting to the NM Program Manager. This exempt, full-time role builds partnerships with the USDA Forest Service, local communities, NGOs and private partners to advance landscape-scale conservation projects.

Based in Silver City, Alamogordo, or Las Cruces, the role supervises the Southwest team, manages budgets, and develops scopes of work and funding

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in natural resources-related field (or equivalent experience).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with proven results in conservation programming and community-based collaborative conservation including knowledge of USDA Forest Service policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Career experience in natural resource management, restoration, or program management.
  • Strong understanding of New Mexico’s cultural history and natural resource issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop close, mutually beneficial relationships between the USDA Forest Service, the NFF, and NM field partners to implement conservation partnerships.
  • Support on-the-ground restoration, recreation and community engagement by developing partnerships, sharing resources, and leveraging support.
  • Oversee programs, projects, funds, and teams across Lincoln and Gila National Forests in southern NM.
  • Coordinate scopes of work and budgets for project implementation with the USFS and SW Field Team.
  • Conduct procurement, contracting, and grant processes for hiring contractors and selecting grantees.
  • Oversee contractors, consultants, nonprofits, and the USFS to implement conservation, watershed, restoration, and recreation projects.
  • Ensure project implementation meets USDA Forest Service criteria and provide final evaluations.
  • Supervise Southwest team staff and oversee performance measurement and impact reporting.
  • Pursue funding opportunities and develop new partnerships and funding streams.
  • Engage the public in caring for National Forests through outreach and awareness campaigns.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends, policy interventions, and innovations in conservation.
