Job summary

ASCO in the United States seeks an experienced attorney to provide HR-focused legal counsel for day-to-day issues, contracts, and compliance. You will advise on benefits, employment laws, and vendor agreements while supporting the organization’s strategic initiatives.

You will collaborate with internal clients, draft and negotiate agreements, and help expand international programs, all while upholding ASCO’s nonprofit mission and high standards.

Qualifications

• JD and active Bar membership in good standing.
• 3–5 years’ experience advising clients on Human Resources, employment, and employee benefits matters.
• Transactional, corporate, or other business-related legal experience.
• Ability to review and interpret legal and/or contractual obligations.
• Contract drafting and negotiation experience.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and research experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary attorney for HR-related transactional and regulatory matters, including review of vendor contracts and maintenance of the employee handbook.
• Provide legal support for business and contract negotiations across ASCO departments.
• Collaborate with internal clients to provide legal guidance on programs and strategic initiatives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements for ASCO programs, including supporting the international expansion of select programs.
• Draft, review, and negotiate content licensing, ASCO Advantage, Best of ASCO, ASCO Direct, and hotel/meeting contracts.
• Perform legal research, analysis, and writing on topics including employment, employee benefits and compliance with applicable federal and state employment and employee benefits laws.
• Prepare memoranda summarizing legal analyses and present findings to internal clients and departmental leadership.
• Maintain key client relationships with designated departments and staff.
