Job summary

American Society of Clinical Oncology, Inc. (ASCO) is seeking an Associate Counsel to advise on HR, employment, and benefits matters, support senior attorneys, and draft and negotiate contracts for ASCO programs.

Preferred location is Alexandria, VA with remote options for qualified candidates. The role emphasizes compliance, research, and strategic guidance within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• JD and active Bar membership in good standing.
• 3–5 years’ experience advising clients on Human Resources, employment, and employee benefits matters.
• Contract drafting and negotiation experience.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and research experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary attorney for HR-related transactional and regulatory matters, including vendor contracts, employee handbook, and benefits guidance.
• Provide legal support for business and contract negotiations across ASCO departments and programs.
• Collaborate with internal clients to guide programs and strategic initiatives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements for ASCO programs, including international expansion and content licensing/meeting contracts.
• Perform legal research, analysis, and writing on employment, benefits, and compliance topics.
