Job summary

SEH, an employee‑owned engineering, architectural, planning and environmental firm, seeks an Assistant Controller to lead accounting operations and support the annual audit as part of the Finance/Accounting team. This remote role offers executive exposure and growth within a culture that values collaboration and accountability.

Base compensation ranges from $110,000 to $140,000 annually, with eligibility to work from most US states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• CPA, Active or Inactive.
• Experience in accounting leadership roles (Assistant Controller/Controller).
• Experience with annual financial statement audits.
• Broad, hands-on expertise across end-to-end accounting operations (AP/AR/treasury/audits/close).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Proven ability to manage and develop accounting teams.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel; leverage to improve processes.
• Strong analytical, communication, and crossfunctional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial reporting.
• Evaluate emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes; advise leadership on impacts and implementation.
• Maintain relationships with external auditors for audits and controls improvement.
• Manage treasury activities including daily cash positioning and forecasting.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls.
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
• Collaborate with operations to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
• Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff.
• Partner with Controller on financial strategy and process improvements.
• This remote role is open to candidates in most US states; relocation noted in application if relevant.
