Job summary

ghSMART is seeking an Assistant Controller to maintain a scalable finance function for a growing global advisory business. You will lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, deliver variance-rich management reporting, and strengthen internal controls while driving automation and efficiency.

Based fully remotely within the U.S., you will partner with senior leadership, auditors, and cross‑functional teams, mentoring staff and shaping a robust accounting organization to support future

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting; active U.S. CPA license required.
• 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in professional services, consulting, advisory, or similar environments.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and close management; experience supporting audits.
• Demonstrated ability to strengthen internal controls and improve processes; reduce manual work through automation.
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgment; ability to identify risks and resolve issues.
• Clear, confident communicator with a collaborative mindset; experience coaching others preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead a timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Deliver high-quality management reporting with variance analysis and trends to surface risks and issues early.
• Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and review procedures; drive remediation with stakeholders.
• Coordinate with external auditors and internal partners to support audits and compliance.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate accounting workflows for better data quality and scalability.
• Translate accounting matters into clear business language and reinforce operating discipline across accounting.
• Coach or manage team members to build a high-performing accounting function.
