Job summary

Veracity is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team remotely. The role reports to the Controller and handles journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable approvals, and month-end close activities for accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close processes required.
• Insurance industry experience required.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and financial databases.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
• Experience with accounting systems, expense management platforms, and financial reporting tools preferred.
• Knowledge of trust accounting and trust laws preferred.
• CPA license or active progress toward CPA required.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary owner of carrier reporting and bordereaux reconciliation.
• Act as a liaison among departments to identify discrepancies and coordinate timely solutions with carrier partners.
• Lead or support implementation and improvements of accounting workflows using technology and automation.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Review and approve accounts payable invoices, expense reports, and payment requests.
• Manage the company's payment platform (Ramp) including user administration and invoice approvals.
• Monitor and reconcile banking activity and assist with ACH and wire transfers.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting documentation.
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries for accurate reporting.
• Collaborate across the organization to resolve inaccurate information affecting financial reporting.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends and process improvements.
• Support internal and external audit requests with schedules and documentation.
• Assist in maintaining accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, insurance regulations, and trust accounting requirements.
• Utilize advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and data analysis.
• Support special projects and system implementations.
