Job summary

GAF is seeking an Asphalt Process Excellence Manager to lead multi‑plant process improvements across the asphalt yards, driving safety, efficiency, and cost reductions. This role collaborates with Corporate Engineering, Operations, Plant personnel, R&D, QA, third‑party oxidizers, and Supply Chain.

You will establish standards, mentor teams, and apply SPC and other analytical methods to optimize performance. Travel up to 50% to support plants and implement best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years in a manufacturing environment.
• 5+ years supporting process engineering at multiple locations.
• Supervisory experience or PM lead experience.
• Experience in continuous web machine operation or design.
• Knowledge of roofing process and ASTM Roofing Codes.
• Advanced communications skills (written, verbal, listening).
• Advanced analytical skills.
• Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Advanced problem solving skills.
• Advanced cross‑functional and cross‑plant collaboration.
• Hands‑on experience.
• Ability to influence and drive cross‑functional decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead team to define, document, and implement standards and best practices.
• Drive knowledge sharing across plants and develop engineering standards.
• Identify cost savings and efficiency improvements; reduce downtime and scrap.
• Serve as contact for internal/external experts to set instrumentation and maintenance standards.
• Collaborate with Corporate and Plants to adopt new technology solutions.
• Participate in safety initiatives (HAZOP) and lead process changes.
• Coach teams to address quality issues and major claims.
• Use structured problem solving tools (SPC, DOE, 5‑Whys, etc.).
• Set priorities using plant metrics and analytics.
• Lead change management and foster continuous improvement culture.
• Mentor technical and process teams.
